Too true, tis grim. This year I decided I would attempt to extricate myself from getting overly emotionally invested in the news & then a huge fucking city caught fire & remains ablaze & that was the end of that. I'm worried for everyone there of course, but now I keep wondering if Brian Wilson is safe, 1) because he is one of my musical heroes, 2) because he is old & recently lost his wife, & 3) because he has a notorious phobia regarding fire that began in 1967 while recording SMILE & it took him decades to recover from his mental decline & the historical debacle that followed.
Therefore, I'm pondering a new mental activity to mitigate feeling overwhelmed by things that are beyond my control (which is nearly everything it seems). I think I'm going to start tracking the ongoing music snippets in my head, which ought to keep me thoroughly occupied, barring any month-long earworms, like the weeks I spent several years ago stuck with Freddie Mercury's ad-libs in "Another One Bites The Dust" that I could neither replicate nor rid myself of. I finally shook them loose after listening to Jacob Collier's "Moon River" which was astounding, until I got stuck in his cave of echoing "waiting round the bend, Huckleberry friend..." which was soon accompanied by flashbacks of Gene Wilder in the Willy Wonka cave boat ride... "There's no earthly way of knowing, which direction we are going..." which let me tell you was a mashup made in Hell & although I adore both Jacob & Gene, I am holding them at least partially responsible for my subsequent episodes of vertigo.
Given that I woke this morning to snippets of a Japanese k-pop song playing in my head, followed by "Cause I want it all or nothing at all" by the barely famous, reality TV boy band "O-Town," I'm anticipating a bumpy ride. I'll keep ya posted. (I'm freakin' 55 years old & now I have to go Google "What happened to O-Town?!")
You've started my weekend in grand fashion...again...as usual...except for one thing.
"Here’s the truth:"
There is no truth.
Nor justice.
There is "the American way"...unfortunately.
Have a stellar weekend and week, Buddy!
Enjoy this time o' peace, Don. You'll be longing for it come the busy season.
